“When you have killed all your own birds, Mr Bingley,” said her mother, “I beg you will come here, and shoot as many as you please on Mr Bennet’s manor. I am sure he will be vastly happy to oblige you, and will save all the best of the covies for you.”
Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice
19.00 – 20.30 Hunting dinner

“He […] described to her some famous day’s sport, with the fox-hounds, in which his foresight and skill in directing the dogs had repaired the mistakes of the most experienced huntsman, and in which the boldness of his riding, though it had never endangered his own life for a moment, had been constantly leading others into difficulties, which he calmly concluded had broken the necks of many.”
Jane Austen, Northanger Abbey

12.30 – 16.00 Carriage ride, drag hunt & ‘cloth shooting’
Every November the Hunting Committee Vorden organises their yearly drag hunt. Several hunting carriages will take the ladies of Stichting Revérence and their party of friends to Castle Vorden to watch the departure of the drag hunt. During the 2 hours carriage ride, that will lead us through the Achterhoekse country side, we will stop to play a game of klootschieten or cloth shooting (a regional, historical folk game with a ball that used to be made of cloth).
Note: Drag hunting is an animal friendly alternative for fox hunting, with a field of mounted riders following a pack of foxhounds hunting the trail of an artificial scent.
Location: Hotel Restaurant Bakker, Dorpsstraat 24, Vorden
Ticket price: € 44,50 (including a drink and a snack)
In case of bad weather it is possible that the carriage ride and/or klootschieten will be cancelled.
If you’re not going to do the carriage ride & ‘cloth shooting, you’re welcome to join us to watch the departure of the drag hunt at Castle Vorden.

19.30 – 24.00 Historic ball at Castle Hackfort
Although Stichting Revérence has visited the area before and the village of Vorden is very small, the ladies did manage to find a ‘brand new, old location’ to hold their ball. Castle Hackfort has just recently opened its doors to the public and Stichting Revérence is the first to organise a historic ball on this magnificent country estate. The recently renovated castle, its carriage house, watermill and surrounding estate will serve as the perfect stage for our autumn hunting weekend.
The castle dates back to 13th century. In 1788 Sir Borchard Frederick Willem Westerholt, Lord of Hackfort, modernized the house. The old gateway and the outbuildings were demolished, the canal was filled up and Sir Westerholt transformed the castle into a 18th century manor house. What better place to hold a Regency ball when Stichting Revérence returns to the country!
Location: Castle Hackfort, Baakseweg 8B, Vorden
Dance instructor: Sally Petchey
Ticket price: € 89
Tickets include:
- A whole evening of dancing and entertainment in the manor house of the Hackfort estate
- A warm welcome with coffee/tea and a small snack
- Live music by the ensemble Sospiri Ardente
- Dance instructions by British dance instructor Sally Petchey
- Several snacks during the evening
- Drinks (soft drinks, beer and wine are freely available during the course of the evening)
Dancing experience is not required. However, a few dances will be reserved for more experienced dancers.
Note: Purchased tickets cannot be returned. When ticket sales prove not to be sufficient Stichting Reverence reserves the right to cancel the activity in question. In this case, the purchase money will be refunded.
